KGSR Four Seasons Broadcast – SXSW Austin, TX

As part of their SXSW offerings, KGSR (now on the dial at 93.3) hosts a live broadcast from the lobby of the Four Seasons hotel. With a lineup including John Hiatt, Grace Potter, Jakob Dylan and the new Dixie Chicks spin-off project from Martie Maguire and Emily Robison, fans rose early (4:30am in some cases) to get a chair or a scare piece of carpet to enjoy music and breakfast for a small donation to the Seton Shivers Cancer Foundation. Songwriters in the Round: Legends and Lyrics Series

Legends and Lyrics episode 1

Bringing together three great songwriters per episode, the Legends and Lyrics series from Song-Writers in the Round is a look at the talent behind some great songs and music paired with performances by each artist.

While the shows are being broadcast on PBS stations, the DVD releases are packed with great extras like bonus songs, full-length interviews with the musicians (only snippets are shown on the broadcast versions) and a spotlight on a new “rising star.”

Austin City Limits Season 34

After 34 seasons, Austin City Limits is the longest running live concert television show.

Beginning as a humble local venue to showcase local Texas artists, the series has grown to feature a wide variety of musical styles and genres.

The new season began last week with an encore showing of R.E.M. but new shows begin this week with Bettye LaVette and Pinetop Perkins.

Other episodes will feature acts such as Lyle Lovett (with his friends John Hiatt, Guy Clark, and Joe Ely), Jakob Dylan, My Morning Jacket, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Carolyn Wonderland, and Aimee Mann.

John Hiatt – Chautauqua Auditorium, CO

On tour this summer with the Ageless Beauties, John Hiatt played Chautauqua after Joan Osborne.

The third of five Colorado dates this September he played a decent mix of new songs from his latest record, Same Old Man and old favorites.

It’s just before the summer tours start kicking and everyone’s getting out of school, the weather is getting really nice and we’re all in the mood for some new tunes.
