The new John Cowan release, The Massenburg Sessions, was recorded in a custom-built uniquely designed studio at John McBride’s Blackbird complex in Nashville capturing the crisp creative clarity of a “more perfect sound” allowing the musicians to hear the intricate work of each other.
Produced by the widely respected George Massenburg and Kazuri Arai, the disk has 13 selections. Throughout Cowan has extended his elastic New Grass Revival Americana roots’ rhythms. The disc has legendary Nashville producer Cowboy Jack Clement singing, playing some acoustic guitar, ukulele, and adding his songs “Got Leavin’ On Her Mind” and “Goin’ Back To Bowling Green.”

She took some time between laundry and other “day-off” chores to answer some questions before they pack up their new van and head to Austin for two shows at the Continental Club this week.
Returning to Austin to kick off a short reunion run of the Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women project, Dave along with Christy McWilson and Austin’s own Cindy Cashdollar, Sarah Brown and Lisa Pankratz peppered their set at the Continental Club with rockabilly flavor.
