A general history

Early ‘90s, Red Rocks Amphitheater. The middle of a George Thorogood and the Destroyers concert and a nice summer downpour. My first concert and the beginning of my obsession with live music.

2001, a large arena. The last songs of a Paul McCartney show. I realize that I can’t remember what happened during the earlier songs – a great tragedy.

2003, Phoenix. American Heart Institute Benefit Concert. I start publishing concert recaps on something that will become Uncommon Music. The readers are limited to a few friends and direct blood relatives.

2005, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, CO. Armed with some scratch paper and a 35mm I proceed to scribble down as many details of Emmylou Harris’ set as possible.

2006, Thirsty Ear Music Festival, NM. A year of journalism school has forever ruined me. I now tote cameras, notebooks and a hodgepodge of writing utensils to every show I attend.

2008, online media class at ASU. During a class assignment, Uncommon Music morphs from scattered concert reviews to an online music magazine.

2009, cyberspace. Uncommon Music moves from Blogger to the open-source WordPress. Some things are broken and later fixed.
