The Low Anthem is a four-member indie folk band that first became known for their third album, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin, and this performance marked their first ever in New Orleans.
Each musician, Ben Knox Miller, Jeff Prystowsky, Jocie Adams and Mat Davidson, is a multi-instrumentalist and the band’s players routinely switch instruments during their shows. The musicians also play unusual instruments including a pump organ, string bass, drums and a bowed glass harp. Ben Knox Miller literally phoned in his vocal on one song as he used two cell phones to call himself and modulate his voice. While the band’s songs tend to be moody and melodic, not fit for the festival experience, the Low Anthem held the Jazz Fest crowd’s rapt attention.
