KT Tunstall – La Zona Rosa, TX

Appearing at La Zona Rosa entirely solo, KT Tunstall put on a fantastic Earth Day show with the help of her “multi-track Taiwanese Orchestra.” After apologizing for having not played in Austin for a number of years the Scottish songstress launched into a multitude of tunes primarily from her latest record, Tiger Suit (“Uummannaq Song,” “Fade Like A Shadow”), the new finger-picked, folky EP available only from the shows and her website titled Scarlett Tulip though a few older favorites (“Black Horse and the Cherry Tree,” “Suddenly I See,” “Other Side of the World”) were slipped in as well.

Filling the time in-between songs she kept the crowd engaged, talking about Austin’s bats, “wigging out” in Greenland, playing a 1970s Norwegian Ski Jumper in the video for “If Only,” and her guitar made from barrels of her favorite whiskey (“the tightest people in the world made the most expensive alcohol, well done, Scotland.”)

Miggs and Robert Francis (both of whom played stripped down versions of their usual material) opened the show.
