Returning to Austin after a touring sprint that took them through 24 states in five weeks, Carolyn Wonderland, Cole El-Saleh and Rob Hooper rocked Antone’s from the minute they took the stage with “Victory of Flying,” a new song that will be featured on their upcoming record, Peace Meal.
Their 90-minute set included other semi-new additions to the setlist (some have been floating around in live sets for awhile but have been tightened up during recent recording sessions) such as the cynical “Usurper,” the absolutely beautiful Vince Welnick/Robert Hunter tune “Golden Stairs,” and the auto-biographical “St. Marks.” Favorites from past records like “Still Alive and Well,” “I’m Innocent” and “Misunderstood” filled the rest of the evening.
