In their “Super Soul Revue,” Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings thrilled audience members Friday night. Supporting their latest record, I Learned The Hard Way, the show began similarly to the album: Instrumental build-up to Sharon’s entrance, bursting on stage with her special blend of retro soul, funky southern R&B and straight-up energy.
Pulling some of the audience on stage for various tunes to provide a subject for a song, dancing and in one case, duet vocals, Sharon and the band had no problem keeping everybody grooving to the beat.
Los Angeles-based funk band Orgone opened the night with a mixture of instrumental jams and vocals from singer Fanny Franklin.
