One of the first dates in a month-long tour to promote her new record, From The Echo, Cyndi Harvell’s appearance at the Ghost Room in downtown Austin made for a mellow, acoustic evening.
With John Howland accompanying her on guitar, Cyndi played mostly new material: the album’s title track, “Eye of the Needle” and the country-styled “Break For It,” a tune about breaking out of prison (“Because I have so much experience,” she quipped). The simplicity of a duo allowed the songs to shine without the risk of becoming lost in instrumentation as happens in places on the record.
She also played a few cuts like “Strongest Man Alive” and “Life I Would Miss” from her debut album, The Night Turned to Song, and added a cheeky cover of George Michael’s “Faith” to round out the set.
