Playing a solo set, Portland’s M. Ward took the mid-evening time slot, switching between the grand piano and guitar for a series of tunes.
He started with One Hundred Million Years and Sad, Sad Song before he asked if the audience was in the mood for a love song, Let’s Dance.
During Undertaker, he stopped playing guitar and wandered around the stage for a moment or two to a backing track. Over at the piano he offered Story of An Artist, a Daniel Johnston song that he dedicated to all the musicians at the festival.

Towards the end of his set he asked if his special guests were waiting in the wings and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings came to the stage for Fuel for Fire, Transistor Radio, The Rolling Stones’ Prodigal Son and the encores, Helicopter and a fun but impromptu sounding Hello Stranger.

Evan, you are right… that’s what happens with not enough sleep and too many shows in a short span of days – you start mixing your cities. Thanks for the correction.
Fantastic review, photos and website your have here Nichole. Great job! Plus you are so fast, I haven’t unpacked yet!
